As part of the implementation of ESG Policy and Integrated Management System, PLN Nusantara Power carries out various environmental and sustainability commitments to support the management of environmental impacts and risks as well as improve the Company's sustainability performance In its implementation, PLN Nusantara Power is committed to complying with the provisions of applicable national and international laws and regulations and environmental standards as well as mitigating, adapting, and managing environmental risks and impacts that affect the Company and stakeholders.
PLN Nusantara Power is committed to supporting the energy transition and achieving Indonesia's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 through the development of low-carbon energy, increasing the New Renewable Energy (NRE) mix, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and managing climate change risks and opportunities in the Company's strategic planning.
This commitment is integrated into the Company's Long-Term Plan (RJPP) of PLN Nusantara Power for 2024 - 2028 with the establishment of Net Zero Emission as one of the pillars of the Company's strategic goals. Within this framework, PLN Nusantara Power targets the development of NRE capacity of more than 5 GW by 2028 and more than 15 GW by 2037, as well as the potential emission reduction of more than 22 million tons of CO₂ by 2028. The implementation of this commitment is supported through the PLN Nusantara Power Decarbonization Roadmap which aligns the direction of generation development with PLN Holding's policies through RKAP, RJPP, and RUPTL, as well as with the Government's targets and policies related to the energy mix and NZE 2060.
In implementing climate change management, PLN Nusantara Power also directs business and power plant development to be in line with the RUPTL and the direction of the PLN Group's energy transition. The development of renewable energy is carried out through coordination and collaboration with PLN and related stakeholders to support the implementation of projects and the achievement of transition targets.
PLN Nusantara Power is committed to managing water resources responsibly as part of the Company's environmental and sustainability management. These commitments include the conservation of water resources, the effective and efficient use of water resources and efforts to reduce the volume of water withdrawal and consumption in the operation and maintenance of wastewater management and pollution prevention, as well as the integration of water scarcity risk into corporate risks and business strategies.
In addition to water management in operational activities, PLN Nusantara Power is committed to supporting access to clean, sanitation, and hygiene water that is managed safely for the local community through the implementation of the Company's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program that is tailored to the needs and conditions of the community.
PLN Nusantara Power is committed to protecting biodiversity and conducting land restoration as part of efforts to manage environmental impacts and implement sustainable development. This commitment is carried out through efforts to identify and manage the impact of the Company's activities on biodiversity, management of ecosystems, species, and genetic diversity, as well as conservation and system restoration efforts. In managing these impacts, the Company implements a mitigation hierarchy through efforts to avoid and minimize impacts, carry out restoration, and provide impact compensation to support the achievement of No Net Loss and/or Net Positive Impact.
PLN Nusantara Power integrates aspects of biodiversity in environmental management and carries out various ecosystem conservation and restoration programs in accordance with the characteristics and environmental conditions around the Company's operational area. The implementation of the program is also carried out through collaboration with local communities, conservation agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to support biodiversity conservation.
PLN Nusantara Power is committed to involving stakeholders and supporting capacity building from stakeholders in managing environmental issues. The involvement is carried out through consultation, participation, coordination, collaboration, education, training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing activities to increase the understanding and capacity of stakeholders in supporting environmental management and sustainable development.
