Jakarta, August 21, 2025 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing the circular economy and environmental sustainability through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Trenggulunan Agro View (TAV). Initiated by PLN NP’s Rembang Power Generation Unit (UP Rembang), the program successfully transforms various types of waste—ranging from FABA (Fly Ash Bottom Ash), dragon fruit peels, to household waste—into FABA Booster Fertilizer (BOBA Fertilizer) with economic value, while delivering positive impacts across economic, environmental, and social dimensions for local communities.
Driven by the innovations MBAH GANTENG (Utilizing Dragon Fruit, FABA, and Organic Waste) and PIJAR GEMILANG (Integrated Interwaste Management for Trenggulunan’s Welfare and Independent Economic Movement), the program integrates waste management through an Interwaste System into organic fertilizer, animal feed, hydroton, and MSME products derived from dragon fruit peels. Since its launch in 2023, PIJAR GEMILANG has involved five pillars of collaboration (pentahelix collaboration) encompassing academia, business, communities, government, and media.
The results have been tangible: 13 hectares of degraded land have been rehabilitated into an energy forest, 75,000 kg CO?eq per year is absorbed through the planting of calliandra trees, and cost efficiencies in fertilizer, animal feed, and coal procurement have reached hundreds of millions of rupiah annually. The program has delivered direct benefits to more than 55 people and indirect benefits to 8,803 people, including the empowerment of women in socially and economically vulnerable groups.
“The PIJAR GEMILANG program proves that waste management not only addresses environmental challenges, but also opens economic opportunities and strengthens community social life. This is a real manifestation of PLN NP’s beyond power commitment—empowering energy for a better quality of life,” said Ruly Firmansyah, President Director of PLN Nusantara Power.
The success of PIJAR GEMILANG led PLN NP UP Rembang to receive TOP CSR 2025 Five-Star recognition and the Circular Economy Sustainability Award (CESA) 2025 in the Output Resource Extension and Recycling category. These accolades mark national recognition of the Company’s commitment to implementing circular economy principles with broad and measurable impact.
Beyond economic value creation, PIJAR GEMILANG also serves as an environmental education platform for the younger generation in Trenggulunan Village, Pancur District, Rembang Regency. The program invites students, university scholars, and village youth to learn firsthand about forest conservation, organic farming, and integrated waste management—nurturing future change agents who will carry forward the spirit of sustainability.
With a roadmap extending to 2027, PIJAR GEMILANG aims to evolve into an agroforestry learning center and a hub for energy crop development in Central Java. PLN NP is optimistic that this initiative will strengthen food security, expand economic benefits, and foster self-reliant village ecosystems resilient to environmental and social challenges. (*)
