Jakarta, August 29, 2025 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) has once again achieved international recognition by winning the Gold Stevie® Award for Technology Excellence 2025 in the category Technology Breakthrough of the Year – Energy Technology. The award was earned through Hydrobot, an artificial intelligence (AI)–based application developed internally by PLN NP to optimize the management and operation of hydroelectric power plants (PLTA).
The Stevie Awards for Technology Excellence were announced on July 31, 2025, featuring more than 1,500 nominations from 36 countries, rigorously evaluated by 160 global professionals. PLN NP’s Hydrobot outperformed competitors from various sectors, securing global recognition as a breakthrough innovation in renewable energy technology. The official award ceremony will be held on September 16, 2025, in New York City, United States.
Hydrobot is an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to support hydroelectric plant operators in their daily tasks. Equipped with Natural Language Processing (NLP) chatbot capabilities, the application enables intuitive interaction—allowing operators to inquire about reservoir status, request operational recommendations, and reference SOPs/Work Instructions. Hydrobot also processes real-time weather data, telemetry, and predictive models to support fast and accurate decision-making. Through this technology, operators can minimize overflow risks, optimize loading for increased green energy production, and reduce carbon emissions.
Hydrobot leverages machine learning to analyze weather data and water flow conditions, predicting inflow discharge and dam surface elevation. These predictions and operational recommendations are delivered via a web-based dashboard and embedded chatbot, complemented by an early warning system that alerts operators when thresholds for overflow risk or minimum elevation are approached. The conversational interface also helps reduce miscommunication and misinterpretation between operator shifts, transforming decision-making from intuition-driven to data-driven. This capability enables swift and efficient hydroelectric operations while enhancing the reliability of clean energy–based power systems.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, stated that the award is a tangible testament to the nation’s ability to create world-class innovations.
“Hydrobot represents PLN Nusantara Power’s digital transformation in delivering sustainable energy solutions. We are proud that an internal innovation by our people has received international recognition. This achievement motivates us to continue developing innovations that support Indonesia’s energy transition while contributing to global decarbonization,” said Ruly.
This achievement also continues PLN NP’s consistent track record at the Stevie Awards since 2018. Previously, PLN NP has received international accolades for innovations such as the iZAT occupational safety application, power plant performance digitalization systems, the SIPLAH environmental innovation program, the AERIEL automated emission dispersion modeling, and the CUBETECS VISION power plant operation system. With this latest recognition, PLN NP further reinforces its position as an adaptive and innovative energy company in the era of digital transformation.
This international award not only strengthens PLN NP’s reputation as a pioneer in energy technology innovation, but also underscores the Company’s commitment to supporting the Government’s vision for a clean energy mix. Through innovations like Hydrobot, PLN Nusantara Power is determined to serve as a driving force in Indonesia’s energy transition—delivering reliable, green, and sustainable electricity for the future.
