Jakarta, 25 September 2025 – PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), Southeast Asia’s largest power generation subholding, officially hosted Nusantara Business Xcelleration 2025 (NBX 2025). The forum serves as a strategic platform for stakeholders to expand collaboration across the energy sector and strengthen Indonesia’s energy transition ecosystem.
NBX 2025 featured a range of strategic initiatives, from strengthening environmentally friendly energy development around PLN Nusantara Power’s assets to showcasing key business lines currently being accelerated by PLN NP, including green hydrogen, FABA utilization, and insights into the carbon trading market.
On this occasion, PLN Nusantara Power signed a total of five strategic agreements with various institutions, all aimed at accelerating the deployment of environmentally friendly energy solutions in support of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emissions target by 2060.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, outlined the company’s strategic direction in developing innovations to achieve this goal.
“The collaborations established through these MoUs cover critical aspects of power generation operations: sustainable water supply, the adoption of low-carbon technologies, and reliability enhancement through MRO services. These agreements strengthen PLN Nusantara Power’s position as a key driver of the energy transition while supporting the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target,” said Ruly Firmansyah.
As part of the initiative, PLN NP entered into two cooperation agreements with Perum Jasa Tirta I and Perum Jasa Tirta II on the utilization and management of water resources for the Asahan and Batutegi Hydropower Plants (PLTA).
In addition, PLN Nusantara Power is strengthening the energy transition through collaboration on Bio-CNG co-firing technology with PT KIS Biofuels Indonesia and PT ReNIKOLA Primer Energi. Bio-CNG derived from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) has been successfully piloted at the Belawan Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTGU Belawan) in August 2025, marking an important milestone in the use of carbon-neutral fuels for power generation. This collaboration will be further developed through additional studies and trials across PLN Group power plants as part of tangible efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
These agreements represent PLN NP’s concrete commitment to advancing clean power generation while preserving environmental sustainability, and position the company as the first in Indonesia to utilize palm oil plantation waste as co-firing fuel.
Bio-CNG produced from POME at palm oil plantations in Langkat was successfully tested on 14 August 2025 at PLTGU Belawan. As a carbon-neutral fuel, Bio-CNG can be produced through low-emission or even zero-carbon pathways, making it a highly competitive option for reducing carbon emissions from power plants.
“The signing of the MoU for Bio-CNG co-firing technology development demonstrates PLN Nusantara Power’s commitment to expanding cross-sector collaboration in delivering clean energy solutions. This initiative not only enhances power generation reliability, but also represents a strategic step toward achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060,” Ruly added.
Beyond external partnerships, PLN NP continues to strengthen collaboration within the PLN Group. NBX 2025 also marked the signing of a cooperation agreement between PLN Nusantara Power and PLN Pusharlis for the development of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. The collaboration focuses on enhancing expert competencies, innovating power plant maintenance services, and exploring MRO market potential both within and beyond the PLN Group.
