Jakarta, April 14, 2026 - Ongoing global geopolitical tensions pose a serious challenge to the global energy sector, including Indonesia. In response, PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) is taking strategic steps to accelerate the energy transition while strengthening power plant reliability to ensure the national electricity supply remains safe and stable. This was stated during the discussion "Indonesia Energy Outlook in the Midst of Global Political Dynamics," organized by the Listrik Indonesia Forum late last week in Jakarta.
As a generation sub-holding, PLN NP manages a capacity of 18.3 GW with a high level of operational readiness. All generation units are ensured to be in optimal condition to support national electricity demands, including in strategic industrial zones that require uninterrupted power supply.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, conveyed that current global challenges serve as a catalyst to accelerate transformation in the generation sector.
"The current global situation is a reminder that energy security cannot be delayed. PLN Nusantara Power continues to strengthen power plant reliability through digitalization and efficiency, while accelerating the transition toward clean energy. We want to ensure that electricity remains reliably available, at an efficient cost, and increasingly environmentally friendly," Ruly said.
In the short term, PLN NP relies on domestic energy resources such as coal and gas as the primary foundation of generation to maintain supply stability. This strategy is considered effective in dampening the impact of global energy volatility and maintaining national energy independence.
Simultaneously, PLN NP continues to enhance operational efficiency by controlling Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) and optimizing power plant performance. This step contributes directly to the stability of the national electricity production cost.
Digital transformation is also key to the company's strategy. Through the implementation of smart power plants, predictive maintenance, and real-time performance monitoring via the Nusantara Control Center (NuCC), PLN NP is able to enhance system reliability while accelerating responses to potential disruptions.
On the energy transition front, PLN NP recorded significant progress through the implementation of biomass co-firing across 25 coal-fired power plant (PLTU) units. This program represents a concrete step toward reducing emissions while serving as a bridge toward the full utilization of new and renewable energy.(*)
