Jakarta, July 31, 2025 — PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), through its Tenayan Power Generation Unit (UP Tenayan), continues to deliver social and environmental innovation through its flagship CSR program, Muda Jaya Organik Earthworm Cultivation. The program has successfully provided tangible solutions to environmental challenges while improving community welfare through a comprehensive circular economy approach.
By utilizing organic waste from the surrounding area of PLTU Tenayan—such as tofu by-products, grated coconut waste, and palm oil waste—the assisted community group Muda Jaya Organik has transformed these materials into effective media for earthworm cultivation. The results go beyond the production of organic fertilizer (vermicompost/casting) and high-value earthworms, extending to job creation and increased income for local communities.
In addition to generating positive economic, social, environmental, and welfare impacts, the program has achieved a Social Return on Investment (SROI) value of 2.27. Through active and sustainable community involvement since 2021, the initiative has successfully established nine new community groups and partnered with local MSMEs, such as recreational fishing ponds, within its supply chain.
President Director of PLN Nusantara Power, Ruly Firmansyah, stated that the program reflects the essence of sustainability as a core value of PLN NP.
“We believe that the energy transition is not only about technology, but also about how companies are present and deliver direct impact to surrounding communities and the environment. This program is a clear example of how energy development and community empowerment can go hand in hand through circular economy principles. We believe the future of energy is not only about technology, but also about environmental and social responsibility,” said Ruly.
As recognition of its positive impact, the program received national acknowledgment in mid-July with a Gold award at the Circular Economy Sustainability Award (CESA) in the Input Resources category. This achievement further underscores PLN NP’s tangible contribution to implementing circular economy principles at the national level.
PLN NP, through UP Tenayan, reaffirms its commitment to replicating this program in other regions, aiming to create broader and more sustainable benefits for communities and the environment. (*)
